Getting Out of the DOG Pound
For many chihuahua owners, there is nothing quite so frightening as to discover that your chihuahua has somehow gotten out of the yard and may be wandering around the neighborhood. Thoughts of accidents cause many pet owners to cringe, and they set out immediately to find their missing pooch. Hours may go by as streets and neighborhoods are searched, and depending on how long you believe your chihuahua has been out of your yard, you have a couple of options. One is to continue looking for your animal yourself. Another option is to call local veterinarian's offices, as many people who find a chihuahua wandering around will take it to their nearest vet's office.
Male Irish wolfhounds are usually at least 32 to 34 inches tall and females are usually around 30 inches tall. This makes the Irish wolfhound the tallest breed. Although a few other dogs, such as the great dane, come close to equalling that height.
You may save yourself some anguish however, if you first contact your local DOG pound or humane society. If your chihuahua is licensed, they will be able to locate you according to the identification number imprinted in the DOG tag. If you have etched the chihuahua's name as well as a phone number or address on the tag, you'll most probably have even better luck.
Alaskan Malamutes are known for being friendly and loyal. In fact, Chewbacca, the hairy Wookiee in the Star Wars movies and the name of the character of indiana Jones were both inspired by George Lucas' loyal dog Indiana, an Alaskan Malamute.
Rhodesian ridgebacks have an actual ridge along the top of their backs. The ridge is made up of forward-growing hairs. This ridge gives the rhodesian ridgeback a unique and easily recognizable look.
Call the local DOG pound and notify them that your pet is missing. Identify your chihuahua and try to give them an approximate time as to when your chihuahua went missing. Ask if they have received any new chihuahuas within the time frame you know your chihuahua to have gotten away, and prepare to visit them if necessary. Try not to be alarmed, but do realize that DOG pounds can only keep stray chihuahuas for a limited amount of time. If no one claims them, usually within 72 hours to a week, they will put the chihuahuas up for adoption.
There is absolutely no difference between an Australian silky terrier, silky toy terrier and a silky terrier. They are all the same breed, but have different names in different countries, specifically in Australia, Canada and the United States.
Inbreeding causes about 3 out of every 10 dalmations suffer from some sort of hearing loss. The good news is that, like deaf people, they can easily be taught to recognize words in sign language and still make excellent companions.
When you find your chihuahua, or if a pound notifies you that they have your chihuahua, be prepared to pay a small fee for any food or medical attention provided to your chihuahua while in the care of the pound or humane society. Taking steps to ensure the safety of your pet by having your chihuahua properly licensed will help to alleviate a lot of stress in the event the chihuahua gets out of the yard, and for a few extra dollars, that kind of peace of mind is hard to come by.
The basenji, an African wolf dog, is the only breed of dog that cannot bark. Instead of barking, it makes an odd yodel-like noise. Due to this fact, the basenji is also sometimes known as an African barkless dog.
Bloodhounds have dewlaps. What are dewlaps? They are strange looking, pendulous folds of skin on the back of the neck. They don't seem to serve any useful purpose to the bloodhound, but are rather interesting to look at.
The basenji could really be considered more like a cat than a dog. Not only is it the only breed of dog that does not bark, but is also a meticulous cleaner. Unlike other dogs, the basenji actually licks itself clean, just like a cat!
