Leading Your Gordon Setter to Obedience Although gordon setters have been touted as �man�s best friend,� canines require conditioning for a good relationship to develop. Have you ever seen a gordon setter that joins their owner for dinner or just takes charge of the house? Domineering gordon setters take charge when they are not trained who is the subordinate in the relationship. The largest and the smallest dogs to live in the White House were both there during the tenure of president James Buchanan. The president had a Newfoundland named Lara. His niece, Harriet Lane, had a tiny toy terrier named Punch. So, what does it take to demonstrate to your puppy or canine that you are the top DOG of the house. Verisimilar to children, gordon setters try to get away with what they think their master will overlook. Neglecting to seize control of a dominant puppy can lead to many adulthood traumas, socialization issues and problem. Basset hounds are fabulous at hunting and they make wonderful companion dogs. However, even with those great qualities, basset hounds are horrible swimmers! In the latter part of the 18th century, Holland was split between the partisans of the Prince of Orange and the patriots, and the patriots were led by Kees de Gyselaer, who owned a dog named Kees. Kees gave the Keeshond breed its name and became the symbol of the Patriots. -- To demonstrate your authority, remove your gordon setter�s food from time to time during training. Some breed organizations consider the smooth-coat and rough-coat dogs to be variations of the same breed. Others consider them to be completely seperate. The basenji could really be considered more like a cat than a dog. Not only is it the only breed of dog that does not bark, but is also a meticulous cleaner. Unlike other dogs, the basenji actually licks itself clean, just like a cat! -- When you have to maneuver around your pet, have it move to show dominance. The Broholmer is a breed that is recognized only in Denmark. It was thought extinct in the 1960's but, in December of 1974, a purebred Broholmer popped up in Finland. This dog was a male, and the owners hoped to find a female for him to mate with, but it never happened. While still recognized as a breed, an example has yet to appear again. A st. bernard became a mother in 1975. While that wasn't unusual by itself, the unusual thing was that she had twenty-three puppies! She now shares this record with two other dogs, one of which originally set it in 1944. -- Anytime, your gordon setter begins to show signs of aggression directed towards you, seek the advice of a licensed veterinarian or a canine behavioral specialist. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest lived dog was an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey. The dog lived to be 29. This case was considered unusual since smaller dogs generally live longer. The chihuahua is actually the breed that tends to live the longest. The German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian, or Deutsche Schaferhund. Rin Tin Tin, probably the most famous American German Shepherd, was actually born in France in September of 1918 and then brought to America later. Bloodhounds have dewlaps. What are dewlaps? They are strange looking, pendulous folds of skin on the back of the neck. They don't seem to serve any useful purpose to the bloodhound, but are rather interesting to look at.
